Bourton House Garden is an award-winning three-acre garden with a special atmosphere. Previously visited in September, this visit will be filled with summer planting and begins with an introductory talk from Head Gardener, Jacky Rae. You are then welcome to continue exploring on your own. Created as a series of ‘rooms’, the garden is planted with style and creativity. The knot garden, removed due to box blight, has been replaced by grasses with yew and prunus topiary, which is still being formed. This creates a tranquil area around the raised Basket Pond from the Great Exhibition of 1851). The parterre at the front of the house was also lost due to blight and is still being developed. Wide herbaceous borders (including a ‘white room’ and ‘warm’ beds) have many rare, unusual and exotic plants of interest. Not to be missed is the Shade House, admired by Adam Frost during his visit for Gardener’s World.
To end your visit, a Cream Tea in the stunning 16th century Tithe Barn.
Accessible toilets. Limited disabled access (60%–70%) in the garden.
