The garden was created as an integral part of a 1960s house (not open), one of a group of three designed by architect Peter Aldington, now Grade 2* listed. In less than an acre, space is used to create an illusion of size. A house courtyard with a naturalised pool; a small woodland area around a 100-year old apple tree; a curved glade leading to a series of garden rooms, sunken or raised, sunny or shady, geometric or informal, yet all harmonious and unifying irregular geography with the buildings. The design is of strong structures within, around and over which plants are allowed to develop. The small scale necessitates careful choice of plants and pruning and whose character changes with the seasons.
The small studio of Artist in Residence, Heather Hunter, will be open. Heather specialises in Artists’ books and printing.
Refreshments available during the visit.
The Plant Specialist Nursery is close by in Great Missenden. Well worth a visit either before or after our organised time at Turn End.
