This special private afternoon visit to Rycote Park begins in the sensitively restored barn where the owner, Sarah Taylor, will welcome you with an introductory talk before leading a tour of the Chapel, the historic grounds and varied gardens of Rycote.
The Chapel predates the house, having been consecrated in 1449. It has a plain but pleasing exterior but what makes it of outstanding interest are the fine internal 17th century fittings, the two large covered pews, pulpit and beautifully carved reredos. The visit then moves to the East front of the house, taking in some of the Capability Brown park, designed in the 1760s, the rose garden, herbaceous beds in the 'Sunken Garden', a shade plant border close by the spreading Oriental Plane (a champion); a walled Mediterranean feel patio garden, the Tudor-style herb garden and the knot garden. The fully productive extensive walled kitchen garden and glasshouse was designed by Elizabeth Banks. A truly memorable visit.
The visit ends with refreshments back in the barn.
NOTE: Quite a bit of walking. Some uneven surfaces. Wheelchairs welcome. However, if wet, hard to navigate some areas. Washrooms available though not fully accessible.
