Winter Lecture 2025: In conversation with Alice Vincent

Join Us for an Evening In Conversation with Alice Vincent: Exploring "Why Women Grow"

Alice Vincent will be discussing her bestselling book, Why Women Grow: Stories of Soil, Sisterhood and Survival, a much-needed exploration of why women turn to the earth, as gardeners, growers and custodians. This book emerged from a deeply rooted desire to share the stories of women who are silenced and overlooked. In doing so, Alice fosters connections with gardeners that unfurl into a tender exploration of women's lives, their gardens and what the ground has offered them with conversations spanning creation and loss, celebration and grief, power, protest, identify and renaissance.

In this evening talk, Alice will share the inspirations behind Why Women Grow, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the stories of resilience and renewal she gathered from women across the world. She’ll explore how, in the two years since its release, the book has sparked a larger movement, blossoming into a podcast, exhibition, and a wider call to recognize women’s essential roles as gardeners and land stewards.

In addition to her books, Alice is a columnist for The Guardian and The New Statesman and has written pieces for Vogue, The Financial Times, and The Times. She is the host of the Why Women Grow and In Haste podcasts, and creator of her weekly newsletter community, Savour.

There will be books available to purchase during the book signing and drinks reception from 8-8.30pm.
