Peacocks

Colourful, noisy and precocious, our resident wild peacocks certainly put on a show for our visitors. Watch their elegant displays and listen to their amazing calls. (Please don't get too close!)

Wildlife

Listen – can you hear them? The Arboretum is filled with birds: from the tiny goldcrest to the soaring red kite. Move quitely if you want to spot them! On the ground, you might see one of our native mammals – rabbits, squirrels, hares, foxes, bagers and deer all live here.

Minibeasts

The Arboretum is home to hundreds of type of tiny critters. Be amazed by the colours and patterns of fluttering butterflies, watch our aerobatic dragonflies, hear the busily buzzing bees and peer at the shiny beetles!

There are so many animals living at the Arboretum but many of them are hard to find. Some only come out at night, while others are shy and will hide from people. How many of these animal signs can you find today?

Kids' Explorer Backpacks & Geocaching

Kids' Explorer Backpacks are available from during opening hours. Pick them up from the Welcome Centre and take them with you to help you explore the 130-acre site. For older children (8+), we also have our Geocaching Trail. Click here to see more information about our Family activities.
